Liv, witty and relevant analogy but i think GoT got it right .... humanity has throughout history adapted and/or conquered it's environmental challenges and itself to survive a few million yrs. and in the end, the hubris of power hungry eventually is checked .... and the visionaries ascend. hail hodor !
Well, I agree in principle. But I see at least 2 huge problems: 1) "Assigning appropriate resources to prevent the next pandemic", is not only an impossibility (no one knows when/what/where the next pandemic will be/originate, so how can you "assign 'appropriate' resources?), who decides what resources are appropriate, the same class of people misappropriating resources now? And 2) Authoritarianism has always been a feature of "Democracy". That's why we need an objective set of constraints (Constitution) placed on whichever majority holds power. People who haven't read their history refuse to grasp the irrefutable fact that "the other side" can win power through pure Democracy just as easily as "their side", and will be just as likely to abuse that power if those Constitutional constraints don't exist.
It’s curious . Only 15-18 months ago 2 of my oldest friends ( a couple) were arguing how pervasive identity politics was. One thought it was the other thought it only existed in academia and certain media. Now it’s clear. It’s pervasive , it’s endemic it’s everywhere like cancer and it’s stupidly banal and pointless

How do we get MSM to portray the spectre of annihilation as vividly, accurately, and often as GoT?
Well, I agree in principle.
